The serial number of an acoustic guitar may be on the back or on the label in the sound hole. The guitar's serial number also may give you a clue to its value. Generally speaking, a lower serial number (for example, '0001') indicates an older guitar that will be worth more than one with a higher serial number (for example, '0987'). Sep 15, 2017 Yamaha's guitars serial numbers repeat every 10 years, so additional research may be needed to find the exact year your guitar was made. The letter 'H' is used for years ending in one, beginning with 1961. The next nine letters of the alphabet correspond to years ending in the next nine numbers.
Hi,
Can you tell me how old and mybe some history on my Memphis guitar. The serial number is 9401106. I made a swape, a gas can for the guitar. It is black with one pick up, and two control knobs.😊
Thank you,

Memphis Guitars are kinda a modern mystery. However, my reference sources do mention then.... Memphis guitars were manufactured in the 1990's and their values range from;
Electric Guitars; Mint - $175.00 to Good - $65.00 USD
Bass Guitars; Mint - $150.00 to Good - $60.00 USD
Made in Korea....
Memphis guitars and basses are entry level to medium quality instruments designed for the student guitarist. Models encountered so far are the bolt-on neck Fender copies (Strats, Teles, P-basses). Headstocks have a silk-screened 'Memphis' logo; guitars usually have a thick polyurethane solid finish, so let's not ask how ply the body wood is. One higher end model with a locking tremolo system and two exposed coil humbuckers was encountered by Walter Murray, Frankenstein Fretworks.
That's about it. However, do a word search for 'Memphis' on axecentral as I know there are other posts concerning these guitars. Your guitar age would be 1990'ish.

KcBuck,
Thanks for the quick response. It has a desecnt sound to it, but you can tell it is not an expensive one. I just picked up a 1997 US made Fender stratocaster. Must admit, sounds much better.
Thanks again,

Of the Memphis guitars that have been posted here no one has complained about the sound. I put Fender Mod Shop's 'Samarium Cobalt Noiseless' pickups into my Made in Mexico (MIM) 'Standard Stratocaster' and they made all the difference in the world, if you like a nice warn tone. May want to try these in your Memphis Strat, assuming it is a Strat.
Good Luck,

Yamaha Guitar Serial Number Age
See now the memphis i bought in the 5th grade, looks like a jackson strat style.. It has a jackson neck and Bridge. And when i took it to this little guitar shop this man was telling me memphis used to be jackson guitars or are a branch of jackson guitars.
If you have any information or comments please email me.
What year was it when you were in the 5th. Grade? There is no information on the Memphis Guitars product dating anywhere that I know of. You'll have to estimate its age.
Sorry,
kcbuck
I have a Memphis Explorer knock off I bought new in 1976. Korina woodtone with white guard. Still plays good on my Peavey amp I bought in 1978. I have told my wife to bury with it when the time comes. I have 7 other guitars including a Les Paul, Strat and Gibson V and love 'em all but none have the memories that Mem has.
There is not a lot of information out there on-line or in my reference books concerning Memphis Guitars. You say to bought it new in 1976. I would than say it's probably a 1975 or 1976 model year. Per the Blue Book of Electric Guitars they're not worth to much, $75.00 to $175.00 USD depending upon condition (if memory serves me correctly from work).

Thank you, jpk.
We see some traffic on Memphis guitars on these boards, usually about once a year.
But Fjestad's Blue Book has precious little information on them:
' Instruments currently produced in Korea (recent circa). Distributed by C. Bruno of Bloomfield, Connecticut. Memphis electric guitars and basses are entry level to medium quality instruments designed for the student guitarist. Models encountered so far are the bolt-on neck Fender copies (Strats, Teles, P-basses). Headstocks have a silk-screened 'Memphis' logo; guitars usually have a thick polyurethane solid finish, so let's not ask how ply the body wood is. One higher end model with a locking tremolo system and two exposed coil humbuckers was encountered by contributing editor Walter Murray. Source: Walter Murray, Frankenstein Fretworks.'
